So I had all sorts of ideas for this assignment, but none of them were panning out. I spent the day hanging around train tracks and factories. I was sure that there was going to be some crazy example of the complimentary color schemes. I thought maybe two rail cars side by side, or some object jutting out of a grassy patch of ground, but it wasn't happening. So I headed back to the car. To my surprise this shot was right there in the parking lot. The red and green leaves curling through the fence compliment each other. The opposite colors glare off one another, however like the reading says, it just looks right.

Yes you caught the green and red! I have to admit that it sort of reminded me of poison ivy, which I always seemed to get when I went walking around places like this...nice job
I think it is interesting that there seems to be so much green and red within natural settings, however difficult to find things in the blue and violet family or is it just me? Great shot! I think that the best set ups are the ones that happen when we are not looking for them! I like how the fence is captured within it also which gives an artistic value to it. Excellent monochrome shot! I had a hard time trying to find something for that and then I came up with the idea of a bag of frozen peas taken upclose - but came home to find them in a casserole (albeit it tasted good and was nice to come home to dinner). :) If you did not see that building, what other ideas did you have for the monochrome?
Rach, Well I'm glad that your photo subject was at least delicious. I agree completely with the red and green being abundant and other color combos being a lot harder to find. As far as the other monochrome shots I was thinking of such excitement as a bucket of roofing nails, or a pile of slightly rusted lanterns. I'm in Boston right now so I thought maybe stonework in a building or brickwork on the ground. I'm still looking for that.
Karen, I'm pretty good at finding poison ivy myself. I have a real knack for ivies, oaks, swarms of biting insects. Luck of the somewhat Irish :).
Travis,
Did you take the monochrome shots that you thought of? They sound interesting... if you do let me know I would like to look at them, also between Jay and you there were comments regarding pictures of books, I would like to check that out also what you guys did since I also did a photo of books (it's on my flickr account and in the slideshow on the blog). Thanks and looking forward to seeing more! p.s. to you and & karen I am lucky I am not allergic to poison ivy, but I always seem to be the one that has the snakes slithering across the feet, the bird poop on the head (cdn. geese use me for target practice) and mice who like to hide out in my boots & jacket (which makes for great dance moves). Hmmm... could be on to something in regard to luck of the irish. :)
just something about the creeping plants forcing itself through the wires and springing forth its red flowers of life just speaks to you, ya know? wonderful on color themes as well.
Rach, I haven't taken the nail picture yet. (turns out a bucket full of nails is pretty expensive) :). The city scape shots were pretty much scrapped as well. It poured the whole time I was there. I do want to hit those next time I'm down. I'm going to post one of my book shots, and check yours out on flickr. Its kind of crazy that we all ran and snapped one. I'm sorry to hear about your experiance with the geese. I will never look at them in the exact same light. :)
