In this picture I was going for the Monochrome color scheme. The sky cooperated and was different shades of the steel grey/blue. This is a sand processing factory next to the highway in Boston. I took this picture with a point and shoot camera that I've had for years while riding shotgun , stuck in traffic on an exit ramp. I liked all the angles as well as the bland color scheme

. It is nearly as if it was shot in grey scale. I didn't plan on taking it but There it was, and here it is. I like that I didn't have to search for this shot. It found me and I'm glad that it did.

It's funny, I kept thinking about how in 4 weeks we're all going to be overwhelmed by the mix of red and green as the holiday season roles in. But luckily, between flowers and berries, there's no shortage of those particular colors right now; however, blue and orange is a bit different. I was temped to hollow out a pumpkin to get it floating on sky reflecting water, but eventually decided carrots on my blue plate was easier. I really like your monochrome factory show - industrial shots like these are always pretty cold and cool.
Jay, I totally agree. The red and green was an easy way out. I'm hoping something else comes to me this week to spice things up. I can't wait to see your pictures
Travis: You not only caught the monochrome theme dead-on, but the actual color goes with the industrial somber blue mood...
Karen, Yeah I was pretty lucky on the sky. There was so much steel blue grey going around, and I found myself in the right place.
Travis,
Your shot of the green and read leaves came out very nice. The red is very vibrant. I don't necessarily think the green and red was an easy way out. A lot of the shots that I had taken for red and green looked better live than they did as a photograph. The pop factor just was not there. So good work on that. I also like the monochrome factory photo. I was only able to find my wood pile, but was not impressed with it so I choose to go with the analogous and complementary.

i agree with karen on the industrial building. that just...idk what it is but it's just so eye catching despite it being cool grays
In relation to Lisa's comment...
I agree, it is not always an easy way out. Complimentary colors is something I have always had a hard time with. It's just a mind thing, but I have always been okay with red and green (Christmas) ;-), but for whatever reason I am rarely drawn to a composition with complimentary colors. I know they provide for the some of the best artwork through... interesting.
